Services Offered
The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program offers services that teach students how to negotiate the college experience. These services include:
Tutoring
Along with the tutoring offered through the MCC Tutoring and Academic Assistance Center, TRiO SSS participants have exclusive access to math tutors whose time is devoted entirely to the program.
Academic and Financial Aid Advisement
The TRiO Student Support Services program staff provide advising in conjunction with students’ assigned college advisor. The SSS staff assist students in creating academic plans and pathways that will lead to graduation without wasted time in unnecessary courses or spending financial aid dollars needlessly.
College Survival Workshops
A full array of workshops are offered every semester to help students be successful in and out of the classroom. Topics include study skills, time management, introduction to library resources, cybersecurity, test taking anxiety, FAFSA completion, scholarship exploration, understanding student loans, and credit card management.
Transfer Advisement
The SSS program encourages students to transfer to four-year institutions to pursue bachelors and masters degrees. Assisting with transfer planning including identification of prerequisite courses, completion of applications and other required documentation, and necessary supports are provided to SSS participants.
